The chargers differ by wattage. On your computer, click on "About This Mac" from the Apple Menu. It will show your computer type, size, and year it was built. Then to find what charger you need go to:

The cords and chargers differ by wattage and the type of USB cord. Generally, the bigger the MacBook, the more wattage it will need to charge faster. The newer MacBooks are requiring USB-C cords. A quick Google search will help you now what type of cord you have.
