It will “chime” when in proximity to another iPhone, however, it is not really loud. This is how Apple is currently avoiding privacy concerns (eg tracking your cheating partner by slipping it into their jacket pocket). If you hide it good enough your thief may not be able to find it easily in the car, allowing you to track the item longer. Take note that nothing is sure-fire security and can be defeated one way or another. This is certainly an inexpensive way to track anything of value, but you are always dependent upon other people’s iPhones for this to work effectively.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If it’s attached to your account and your phone, it may not tell them before telling you.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It would only tell them one is some where on the car, they wouldn’t be able to use the locate feature, just put it somewhere not easy to get to. I have one on my daughters 4 wheeler in a place that would take some work to get to.
