Yes, and you can also get a key chain or bracelet (that looks like a watch) to tag their gear that goes with them, or be wearable, respectively. Slipping in the pocket might be risky as sending a tag through the wash will wreck it (coming from experience). Also be aware that the technology works by relaying signal through other Apple phones, so if these are not in the area the tracking won’t work. Also, the chime, which is fairly quiet, only works within close proximity (<30-100’), so you can’t really “call your child home” using it.
