Just make sure you’re not putting it between large metal objects (such as multiple computers). While it’s unlikely this will cause interference or signal loss, it’s still possible.

So any apple product with your icloud account will show the devices when you login and open find my device app. However, the tracking accuracy is achieved by any Apple product the tags can ping off which in turn updates its location to the synced icloud account.
