Not sure what you are asking since I'm not clear of what you are asking: "change my carrier to a unlocked one". Locking policy depends on the carrier. You have to be a customer of the particular carrier for so may days or weeks before the carrier unlocks a device. If you can get or have a unlocked device, it can be as easy as swapping the SIM from the old to new. If there is a problem, call the carrier and ask them to send a refresh signal.
