• If you plan to pay cash for it then you should buy an unlocked version. This can be used on any carrier.

• If you buy it for the full price and you have an existing at&t account you can request it to be unlocked immediately via their device unlock website. It usually takes a few minutes to approve the request, but may take up to 48 hours. If you don’t have an at&t wireless phone account, you must confirm your request through the email they will send you. Also if you go through at&t without having an existing prior account, the wireless number assigned to the device must be active for at least 60 day in order to be unlocked.
