What’s the catch with it being $100 cheaper null

There is no catch. It is just an incentive that T-mobile is offering their customers to keep them from switching. I ordered this phone and the $100 discount was just a line item on the receipt labeled as "Promotion". The phone doesn't renew any contract, doesn't require a change in service plan, and doesn't get put on your monthly T-mobile phone bill.
