“So probably a dumb question but if you get a phone and it’s locked, what do I do to unlock it? I already have an AT&T plan I do monthly. I just want the phone. Can I continue to use my AT&T plan and get my phone unlocked, does AT&T or Best Buy do it?7”

If you have an AT&T plan, you can just activate it on your account, no need to unlock. Once the phone has been activated and used for a certain amount of time through AT&T you can have it unlocked.
