“I have never had a smartphone. Thought for the price this looks like a good one to start with. I live in the country and reception is sketchy at best. It was recommended to me to get one with wifi calling does this phone have that?”

I updated from a 5S to the SE and it was an easy move. You will like the SE! Be sure to get a good case.
