So you get Best Buy credit which I believe you could use towards the purchase of your new phone. And if I’m right it’s up to like $400 depending on the condition of your trade in phones.

You can trade in your phone first if it’s paid off, then use the credit lower the cost of the iPhone XS Max.. you can use your Best Buy Credit Card did the remaining balance.
