Yes a screen protector will work with this. Pretty much any brand will work since most of the screen protectors that you can get only cover the screen portion of the phone.

Yes, the entire face of the phone remains open, it is just a bit inset and surrounded by the rim of the case. A stick-on screen protector should work fine.

Yes a screen protector will work for this I have the zagg screen protector on my iPhone XS Max and I have the privacy one. And it works just fine. Literally 99.9% of screen protectors will fit. I have one of those ‘full screen’ screen protectors that has a black strip around the edges and has a curve. Fits like a glove! Also most screen protectors are very similar in build quality, so just find one with good reviews!

Yes, At least for me. I used an Otterbox AlphaGlass screen protector for both this and my wife's iPhone XR.
You simply need to have the phone out of the case when applying the AlphaGlass. Once the protector is installed, the phone slips back in perfectly.

I choose to get the screen protector from the Apple store. (Belkin glass) The screen protector is not in contact with the case. There is about 2-3mm of space separating the two. The space is small enough that the screen is protected with out the two being in contact.

Yes and No.
Yes, it will 'work' with this case as in... It will fit on the iPhone XR Max.
Additionally, with the iPhone XR Max's Case already on the iPhone, seating the Screen Protector is a piece of cake. You'll have no choice but to get it perfectly centered.
No, it will not 'protect' the iPhone additionally, any more so than the normal iPhone XR Max's case would.
In fact, by added the screen protector; You are defeating the purpose of this iPhone's Case keeping the front glass receded. 
By allowing whatever impact a 'drop' may cause; to 'impact' the main screen... You risk that front glass exposure rate from 0% to 100%.

Good luck. It's doable, but not necessary and actually advised against.
