• No, you cannot use this with an external DAC. This product is an analog output for traditional headphones. It has a built in DAC and amp (the same chips used by Apple in earbuds). To use an external DAC use the lightning to USB cable that comes with the phone. The DAC may give an error because it requires more power. In that case you need to get a powered USB hub (iPhone to hub to DAC). Those can be found on Amazon for under $20.

• No. The output of this adapter is an analog signal in a headphone jack format. The DAC is inside the adapter, if I understand correctly.
