I don't think you need it with a 5S, because I believe the 5S has an audio jack port in addition to a lightning port.

Works with any iPhone with. Lightning plug. Would not work on alder models with the wide charging cables.

Anything above the iOS 12 update and a lightning port should make it work. Recommended for iPhone 8 and above

This product is unnecessary for an iPhone 5s. This is needed for models without a headphone jack.
