No pairing is necessary - you simply attach the iPad Pro with the magnetic hold and the keyboard just works. You can't use the keyboard without the iPad Pro being attached.

turn on bluetooth and place iPad on stand make sure no case on iPad

Just align the back of the iPad to the magnetic pins and it will snap into place
