No. It is similar to a touch pad on the laptop. You slide your finger(s) across the surface to move the cursor, fields, etc. You can use other gestures and press movements to open menus typically associated with the mouse or changing screens. I place it next to the keyboard and use it in place of the mouse. It is much more effective than the mouse without the wide range of movements the mouse requires for a 27" monitor.

It's very accurate and works great, it's also rechargeable, I purchase it for to use it on my Mac mini. There is other products you could also look into. But those are not as a accurate on the touch as this one.
