• I had to go type it in and it said purchase for $0 so I did that and it sent a email with the link

• I didn't either, but a code was on my receipt (online and a return printed at store ) web address on receipt went only to apple page. No help there. Open your iTunes, scroll to bottom of page and click on link to redeem. It will ask for your code there. I was able to do it w apple music and news+
