• It's not BluRay compatible, only regular DVDs. Also, this drive may not work with Mac Pros from before 2013; make sure you can return it if it doesn't work for you.

• I do not believe it will, even with a firmware upgrade. It is a hardware limitation. Try looking for Samsung or another brand of portable blu-Ray drive. They are out there, and will work with MacBooks, but you may need an adapter to change USB A to USB C on newer model MacBooks if the external drives are USB A.
