• Yes, as it is just a disc drive. The resolution of the monitor in the MacBook should have no cause to stop the drive from working. The problem would come from what type of media you are trying to read as the drive will not read blu-Ray discs that are higher resolution multi layer discs.

• Yes, but only if the MacBook Pro did not originally ship with an internal optical drive. This drive was specifically intended to work with the MacBook Air and subsequent models that did not ship with an internal optical drive.
