You have mobile service on your ipad, and you want to Hotspot your laptop so you can use internet. Is that correct? Well if you are using Hotspot , that is a wireless feature. You would not need Ethernet. Ethernet is for hardwire into a router, or hub. What exactly are you attempting to do? You shouldn't need to have a VPN.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.If i understand your issue correctly, you are having an issue with internet on your computer, and would like to use the iPad as a hotspot? If your iPad has a wireless chip activated (ex Verioz, AT&T), then you should be able to turn on hotspot in the setting menu > cellular hotspot (enable bluetooth and wifi). After this connect your iPad to the computer with a regular USB cord, and the computer should recognize the iPad. Hope this helped!
