Yes, you can actually hook up any monitor to your laptop to replace your broken display

If your laptop doesn't have HDMI, Displayport, or VGA, you will need to buy an adapter cable as well. However, I would suggest getting a replacement LCD/screen to replace the bad one in your laptop itself. You can follow a guide at iFixit when replacing the built in screen.
