I use PC (IBM) based laptops so, I can't give a complete answer to your situation. My ASUS cd/dvd drive failed in service soon after I installed it. I now use an LG drive. I loaded then uninstalled the accompanying software disc. It interfered with my ability to rip cds, which was what I got it for to begin with. I like to load music content to the external micro sd card in my phone.
