No. Keep a standard handset(not part of any system, no glowing screen) with a corded handset for that. Last one I bought was about $15 from Best Buy.

Only if the Base Station is connected to an Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) can you still use it. And yes, this is from personal experience, main power was out, phone base on a UPS.
