• My experience is that this will only play if the amplifier has a built-in pre-amp or if you use a separate pre-amp. I found a very nice little preamp for $25. It produces a very nice sound quality. Older amplifiers had pre-amps built in, but as vinyl records gave way to CDs, the amplifier manufacturers stopped including the pre-amps.
