You need to have separate speakers since the turntable does not have its own. However you don’t need a receiver as there is a speaker connection on the back.

There are no speaker connections on the back per se, as the turntable does not contain a POWER amplifier which is what is required for use with PASSIVE type speakers. The output level of the turntable is selectable between phono or line level. The line level output is also RIAA equalized. The phono level setting is for connection to the PHONO input jacks on a stereo amplifier or receiver. The amplifier or receiver will have passive type speakers connected to it. The line level setting is for connection to any input OTHER THAN a phono input, such as the AUX or CD input, on a stereo amplifier, stereo receiver or powered type speaker system.
