It depends on what type of computer you have, Windows or Mac, and the Operating System on the computer. Windows computers have a "Listen to this device" option that will allow the turntable to play through the computers speakers without the use of an audio recording program, Mac computers do not have such an option however, you will need an audio recording program installed on your Mac computer that has a MONITOR function which allows you to listen to a record through the computers speakers without having to actually be recording the record at the time.

Not in my experience. The computer sees it like a microphone. There may be some software that will do that. I ended up buying a preamp and connecting straight to the speakers.
