It depends on your receiver. This turntable has a couple of ways to connect to receivers. It has a built in pre-amp selector switch. It also has a USB port to connect into your computer to save albums digitally. Software is also included for your computer. If you buy from Best Buy, I would talk to the staff. You can also bring in your receiver and test the turntable in the store. The best thing about Best Buy is that if it does not work, you can bring it back for a full refund.

Please try again later.You could by-pass the turntable's internal phono preamp and use a different (external) one, but you would not connect the ouput of the external one to the PHONO input on a receiver. The signal coming out of the external preamp will be RIAA equalized and stepped up to line-level. Connect the output of it to a line-level input on the receiver such as the AUX or CD input instead.
