Your key word is Passive, those are not powered speakers, so they won't work. You'll need powered speakers with a stereo or USB input, or a full stereo amp/speakers etc.

It needs to be hooked up to a separate amplifier to power speakers.

No, passive speakers will not work. Active (aka powered) speakers will.
