“Can the cover be removed and what height would it be w/o the cover? Looking to put it in a cabinet on top of my Yamaha receiver but not a lot of space so considered taking cover off to fit the space if needed. Max space is 4 1/2 inches.”

What's nice is you can dispense with the hinges and still use the cover in a low headroom situation by simply lifting it off the turntable and sliding it out.

So a minimum 6 inches of space is needed for the AT-LP120XUSB Turntable.
