The turntable should be connected to the stereo, not the speakers.Leave the speakers connected to your stereo via the speaker wires.Use the input selector on the stereo to select the input which you have chosen to connect the turntable to so you can route sound from the turntable through the speakers. You cannot connect the turntable directly to your speakers because they are passive type speakers.They must be used with a stereo amplifier or receiver like you have been doing.
