“Charging with AC Adapter is not working I wanted to use this primarily as a charging station but it doesn't charge using AC power only. I connected the hub to the AC adapter and plugged the AC adapter into a wall outlet and then plugged my iPhone 5 into one of the usb ports and got no charge. When I connected the hub to a laptop using the USB power adapter (the one that connects to the end of the hub adjacent the the AC adapter port) and then plugged my phone into one of the usb ports it charged fine. Does it have to plugged into a computer? If so, what is the AC adapter for?”

Hi, Steve. This unit will only function if connected to a computer. The adapter is intended to support the power consumption if you are using multiple hard drives at the same time.

A single usb port on the pc doesn't have enough power to supply power to many devices like keyboard, mouse, hard drive, thumb drives, etc. so this one comes with a power supply that provides power for everything hooked up to it. I use mine to power my gaming keyboard and mouse, my ham radio interface, rotor interface, a weather station and they all work fine. It sounds like what you want is a usb charging station.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I would guess this is an Apple issue. Apple will not charge if not using an Apple approved adapter. Also the AC power is mainly to add power to the hub. Just the USB cable will will run out of juice if you plug 7 USB items that require power form USB. I found 2-4 demanding items will start to fail if powered with just the USB.
