AVOID this purchase! Mine worked ok for a few uses, but started to stick after that and the seller would do nothing because the warranty only covers mechanical elements and not the coating. Terrible customer service as well - they don't stand by their products.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The coating is really nice. I haven't scratched mine because I din't use utensils that would ruin something I paid for. And yes it is aluminum underneath. If you are looking at this on line it tells you. I can't remember and the box is gone.

Ceramic Copper is a coating system based on sol-gel technology without PFOA and PTFE and it does not contain lead and cadmium. It’s 10 times more resistant to scratches than regular non-stick coating. It’s metal utensil safe but to prolong its live we recommend to use plastic or wooden utensils. Hope this helps. I use mine almost daily and it hasn't scratched at all but I only use plastic and wooden utensils with it - no metal utensils. I have several copper titanium pieces and am very happy with them all. I cannot alleviate your concerns about safety but the research I did showed that the bella coating does not contain lead, cadmium and is PTFE and PFOA free.
