Once the waffle plate heats up a red light comes on. You pour the dough on the hot plate, close the lid, & rotate it (this locks the grill). The red light stays on until cooked. That’s when the light turns green stating it is done. Turn back over to release lock, lift lid, & remove waffle.

Yes it does signal when to turn. We personally don't turn when it tells us since we like our waffle a bit more brown and crispy
