“Will the unit save the fan speed (and other settings) if power is turned off in the morning and turned on in the evening? The idea is to have it on a timer, turning on max speed at night only.”

Not only it will not remember it's fan speed but it will not even turn on to auto. You have to press the power button after power outage. Stupid.
