How wide is the desk clamp on the stand? null

About 2 " diameter at the top. You can see the C Clamp design here https://s3.amazonaws.com/cd.bluemic.com/pdf/compass/Compass_QuickStart_RevA_EN.pdf

It is an just a bit over an inch across and It seems to be able to fit 3 inches in the clamp safely.
