Hi suzcrafty, thanks for your question and interest in model # SHEM3AY55N. To make sure your dishwasher runs smoothly, we recommend steering clear of liquid detergent. It can sometimes leave behind residue and clog up the filter. Instead, the Use and Care manual recommends using powdered detergent or detergent tabs.
