My old one was hardwired in too. They hardwired mine in by adding a box.

The dishwasher comes set up for a plug in cord (the end that attaches to the dishwasher is proprietary, the end that attaches to the outlet is a standard three prong type.) Easiest solution is to add an outlet box to your dishwasher space,

Yes, your setup can be hardwired. That is my installation at home. I has an electrical box with a terminal board inside that the house wiring connect to. Connected to that terminal board is a cord and plug that goes to the dishwasher. Very slick.
