• The lips fit over the counter to make it appear neater and then drips will not go down the sides between the oven and the counters.

• they go over the counter to prevent dirt and small staff from falling between the counter and stove

• The lips are the best thing to happen to a slide in range. No crumbs to get in between the counter and the stove. It sits on top of the counter. It give the range a built in look. I will never buy another stove that dose not have this feature.
