Yes they can although they will start smelling from the sweat.

Although they are light and comfortable and may even be waterproof the fit is still somewhat questionable for working out. if you are running on the treadmill, track or participating in a dance class they will most likely slip off your head and be a source of frustration for you. If you are looking for headphones more apt for working out look at the JBL Under Armour Sport Train Wireless On-Ear Headphones. In addition to the Bose 700s I have these and use them to workout. These are designed to stay on during hard workouts and physical activity. They are a much better fit and the sound is pretty dang good as well.

If too much sweat gets on them it could earmuffs it could break them down. Being water resistant I would say it would be fine having a little sweat get on them, but I wouldn't do a whole hardworking workout with these on. I have these and if I work out I will continue to use my beats solo 3's as I don't really care as much about those getting too much sweat in them as I have used them during hockey warm-ups and other off ice workouts. I guarantee you thatI sweat profusely while mowing in the heat of the day, and the headphones show no effects of such wear. I wipe them off, and they are ready for my next use!
