“i work in a shop where repeated exposure can cause hearing loss. would these reduce the actual decibel level? i used some samsung live buds before and i could barely hear my music but im more worried about preventing further hearing damage.”

I would only rely on certified equipment that is designed to for sounds that cause hearing loss. However, what I can say is that if the sounds are consistent these will do a great job in heavily reducing their impact. If the sound fluctuates in noise (meaning, sometimes a loud, random, bang can occur) these will do a horrible job. They can’t handle those type of sounds.
