“Can this play while charging the battery or do I have to wait til the battery is charged. I'd like to buy it and play it immediately.”

I’m not certain if it was charged out of the box, I’m pretty positive it was. Either way, Yes you can have it play while it charges. You won’t be upset with the purchase, I love mine!
