Still need some form of a wire in order to set them up to function in desired purpose don't you think??

What they mean is that the wireless headphones connect to the phone via Bluetooth typically and send the music wirelessly through bluetooth.

Many wireless headphones can still work with a standard 3.5mm audio plug to save battery.

From my perspective wireless means that the device does not required to be plugged with a "cable" or "wire" to operate such as mobile phone.
That does not mean that device itself does not have wires inside.
