I would not worry about heat below the oven. Grills are at the top and most the heat rises up from there. I haven't noticed any significant heating below the oven.

No, neither the Breville® BOV800 Smart Oven® or the BOV845 Smart Oven® Pro will damage a counter top.  However, many retailers do sell silicone counter mats for additional assurance.

I would call a company that installs granite counter tops to see what they had to say. It can never hurt to but the oven on a piece of heat shield that you can buy online. It is the kind that is put on the inside of the hood on a car. Or a 1/2 inch piece of wood will work too! Either will work because it will not hurt at all to put a protective barrier under the oven! But be sure that the top and sides are clear because those are the more critical areas that you should be careful of!

I have been using my BOV845, since mid November 2020, on a granite countertop and there has been no damage to my countertop. The longest baking project was at 350 degrees for 80 minutes. I am very satisfied with my Breville Smart Oven in all respects.
