• This thing is a fantastic hdmi switcher. The only reason for the subscription is the voice control.

• If all you want is the basic function is HDMI switch, then you do not need a subscription.

• 1000x better than any input switcher!!!! That is what I originally bought it for and realized, that it was much more than that. It actually will control ALL of your devices from on remote. All I can see the subscription being used for is the search function. Which I NEVER use. So no need for the subscription.

• Yes this will work as a switch box without a subscription so you will lose the voice feature only.

• I can confirm the device works great with out the subscription. the Subscription is just to be able to access the "Deep inking" feature. Which is awesome but not necessary.

• It can be used for this, but there are many other much cheaper alternatives if you just want a switch. The subscription is for the search function.

• You don't need the subscription to use as an HDMI switcher, but you will be forced to choose one of three plans anyway. Before the plans kicks in you get a 45 day free trial (strange coincidence if you're an Best Buy Elite Plus member) so just choose the $2 option & cancel later. Personally if I decide to keep it I'm gonna choose the lifetime option for $50
