The megapixels have somewhat to do with the quality, but is not the overall factor. The size of the sensor, the size of the megapixels individually, the count of the megapixels, the dynamic range of the sensor, the company such as Canon Kodak Sony Nikon also determines the technology inside the sensor. The price reflects all of these factors. A 50 megapixel sensor inside of a DSLR was unheard of. This is a technological accomplishment. Do not forget Dynamic Range ISO, and Full frame all come into play. The better these are more likely the higher the price.
