• I have taken several videos with this and can hear things very well on the video so it must have a built in microphone. However if you are making movies with it where you need each word said with absolute clarity at a distance from the camera I would suggest an external microphone

• Yes it does. The onboard microphone may not be as good as an external Rode Mic, but will definitely get the job done if filming without much background noises.
