I have not taken any moon shots yet. I have taken wildlife photos on our lake. The long zoom works pretty well. I still need to avoid hand shake on 200 mm + shots. Indoors video sessions at night have more noise than I would like but I have another camera I can use for that. Overall I think the long zoom ability of the SX60 makes it worth the price.

You would want to get the version VI model which has the superzoom, but it does not do well at night, so you would need a tripod to shoot the moon to compensate for the slow shutter speed you will have to use.
