Keep on pressing the Home button and insert new batteries.
Don’t release until you see a pulsating light.

Have you tried taking them out and putting them back in. They both go in the same direction. Had the same issue

Static electricity buildup. Pull the batteries, then push each button twice starting from the top left. Put batteries back in.
