For this version, you don't need your phone at all. You use the remote that comes with it and you just log in to whatever streaming service you have (whether it be Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max, Apple TV, YouTube, YouTube TV, Spotify, etc.) to start watching TV shows and movies or listening to music. It is similar to the Roku, but with a way better design in my opinion.

You can watch from the Chromecast with Google TV without using your phone. Make sure to download the video app where you want to watch your shows to the device. You can control or navigate the interface using the Chromecast Voice Remote. The option to cast from your phone is still available.

This Google TV has a full UI, no need to cast from your phone.
