“Is there any way to turn off the LED? Some people keep mentioning a controller but I didn't see any in the box”

• No. The LED lights get power from the the 3-pin fan connector. As a matter of fact, the brightness of the fans is directly related to the voltage they get, which is how 3 pin fan speeds are controlled. However, the change in brightness is honestly only noticeable at the fans lower speed near their minimum RPM range.

• No , the LEDs are on all the time. Very white color.
