Plug and play has seemed to work just fine, but limits your control over the sensitivity and rgb of the mouse.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Any USB-C power connector will work, and even allows for a wired connection with a computer. I just used an apple USB-3 to USB-C plugged into my computer and mouse and there was no difference from the normal cable.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The iCUE software is mostly for lighting, keyboards, and macros. If he wants to use the thumb buttons correctly he can either use the mouse with ICUE running or configure the buttons as hardware actions for the mouse in iCUE, which allows you to use them without ICUE running or installed. If he doesn't rely on those buttons much though he should be good to go with just plug and play. Hope this helps!
